I came to this school 9th and 10th grade. While there I didn’t notice how much I loved it. I was actually ok with having to wake up so early to go to school. You get to meet such a wide variety of people at this school and the teachers seem to care. Sure not all of them are great but usually every student ends up getting a teacher that they really get to bond with. They offer many AP classes and have magnet programs. Only thing I hated was that administration and counselors can be so unhelpful. I had to do all the research on my own and if you ever need them they are always too busy to talk. Other thing is that the clubs make u complete so many hours and that can be great until they say we will turn them in for you and you end up with 90 instead of about 200 hours you actually volunteered for.
There is a lady in the office, I keep calling and calling, this is the main office and I also called registration. Sounds like the same person answering. All I want to know is some information for my son’s first day of school orientation. She is si rude, keeps hanging up or putting on hold forever, doesn’t let me even let me finish speaking!! Change your office staff and educate them on how to treat people!!! I’m changing my mind on bringing my son to this school with this first horrible experience!!
MR. ALBERTO M. CARVALHO and Dade School Board,
I went to take her ID to school and a folder she had forgotten at home in her other school bag after the long weekend.
I approached security and asked to goto the office. I was asked why and I explained to the female security I needed to drop off some items.
She said I couldn't and I wasn't allowed to the office for that. I asked her since when, that I've done it before. I've even waited on the bell to ring at times so my daughter could come in between classes to the front door where the security desk is at to retrieve her belongings.
Security said not with her and I said in fact its been with her and the male security that's been there as well.
She continued to deny it so I asked to speak to the principal. I waited for about 20 minutes until Dr. Philippe Napoleon came to speak to me. He explained to me it was policy, so I asked to see where it was written down. He said it was sent in the papers at the beginning of the school year. So I again asked for the document, to which he replied it was the principals rule, Ms. Lisa Garcia.
I asked again to goto the office to have her called down to which at this time Dr. Philippe Napoleo said he would take it to have it given to her. As he stated he was doing me a favor by taking it to give it to her. I wasn't happy that I was denied access to my child for something so simple.
As for their security they're liars. If you were able to pull up surveillance video from the last few times I've gone, you would see me waiting for my daughter to come get her belongings from me at the security desk by the front door.
If this rule of not being able to drop off my child's belongings has been a rule, where is the consistency?
I'd like to see this rule in writing that nothing can be dropped of to students once they are in school.
And as for denying me access to my child while being in school, I'll take that up with WSVN7 Help Me Howard or any other news station to find out what my rights are as a parent.
P.s.
I did try to call the superintendent office first but was given a different number to speak to an advocate that wasn't even in.
I go to this school, its has turned from the school it used to be 10 years ago. Its an A school now and a kid graduated last school year (2014) with a scholarship to Syracuse!! It has the iPrep academy from the county and is unbelievable that its a public school. Some kids don't like the school, whatever. I am a proud trojan and hope nothing happens for me not to graduate from there!
c/o 2003 WYA!
This was a great school when I was there. They give you a lot of resources and opportunities to succeed you just have to take advantage of them. I was kind of a below the radar student and I kinda regret that but all the great programs are there. Sports, band, drama, social clubs, etc.
I had a bunch of great teachers that I learned so much from: Mr. Russo, Mr. Sapperstein, Mr. George, Mr. Paul, Ms. Lalababayev, the guy with all the animals, Mrs. Felice, Mr. Glaser and the coach with the donuts. I also made a lot of friends that don't talk to me anymore.
Good times, good times.
This is an amazing school with a lot of great teachers. I loved going to school there and it was an awesome experience! Teachers are very hands on and i learned more there than "1 of the Top 5 charter schools" i attended... lol
I never thought I would do this, and I may even feel a little guilty after it’s done but it’s just too much at this point. The school is absolutley horrible. Looks like a prison, terrible food, no frequent activities outside of their precious little iprep or deca, every sport team is losing all the time, they have an administrator who’s mad at the world and has nothing better to do but tell kids they’re gonna fail in life, the kids are so toxic and provocative that you need a hazmat suit in order to be around them, and they expect us to follow the uniform policy (which now doesn’t even contain the trojan spirit shirt for some reason) as strictly as ever even though everything I stated previously is still going on. By the way and out of experience, the only reason they have such good gpa is because the kids there are that good at cheating, nothing more. I’d say the only reason I survived for 2 and a half years was thanks to a couple good friends and teachers like Ms. Hunt, Ms. Gondar, and Ms. Rubin. I’m not the only one that feels this way. Most kids in H.M.L. feel the same but think it won’t make a difference what they say so they just stay quiete. I personally think about an 80% of all the other schools in Miami Dade County would be better than Hialeah Miami Lakes. Thank God I switched over to their rivals Hialeah High School.
T-breds Forever!
Highly recommend this school if you want your child to make friends and learn the subject they're being taught. mild amounts of homework and its really easy to graduate if you put it your effort
